[A notice will be posted on all Common Room noticeboards, as well as the main castle board in the Entrance Hall. It reads as such:]

WIZARD DUEL CLUB

For those who wish to learn the art of wizard duelling, the Duel club will be every Monday, Tuesday, Friday at 19:00 and every Sunday at 11:00 with Mr. Barton in the Great Hall.

Only Second-year students and above can participate, but anyone can watch and participate.

WANTED

Any staff/higher level students for demonstration purposes/tutoring.

((OOC: The first lesson thread will be going up in here. :3 Feel free to pick an opponent and duke it out! Or just hang around and watch.))

[7pm rolls around, and it sees Clint setting up the Great Hall for the Duel Club, using his wand to set up the stage and spectator seats.

Once that's done, he's going to wait for people to start showing up. This should be good.]

*One of his earlier students to arrive is a scrawny Slytherin 4th-year, who hurries over to drift near a couple of older Slytherins. He doesn't know them by name, but standing by them looks less odd than standing around by himself, and once there he turns to study the stage.*

*... It looks really cool. Danny's never really dueled before (mock duels with wingardium-leviosa'd quills in the common room don't count), and he's excited to try. He mutters a quiet question to his housemates, who shrug and ignore him. Undeterred, Danny turns to the stage.*

Hey, um--are we all actually going to get a chance to duel today?

[Clint is busy stomping on a side of the stage to knock one of the boards back into place when Danny asks the question. The Gryffindor House Head, wearing dark-red robes, light and easy to move in.]

Maybe. [He turns and smiles.] Depends on how good you are, and what you know. There's more to duels than offensive and defensive spells.

Like--ducking, and stuff? *He sounds hopeful, and gives him a faint smile in return. It's not hard to see where he's coming from: he all but radiates 'come on bully me' vibes, and has probably gotten a great deal of practice .*

Um... *His head twitches, but he doesn't look at his housemates, who are watching but ostensibly still talking in low tones.* Is there ever any fighting in duels? You know, like muggle hand to hand?

[Gavroche is--perhaps surprisingly, given his usual track record with appointments--one of the first to arrive. Then again, there's a lot of potential for entertainment here.

He perches on one of the seats, working cheerfully and methodically through an apple and beaming at his Head of House.]

Evening, Professor!

[Clint is pacing up and down the wooden duel stage, making sure there's noting wrong, no loose boards, etc when the voice distracts him. He turns and gives Gavroche a half-smile.

He heard about what you were doing at the feast.]

I'm not a Professor, Mr. Thénardier. Mr. Barton will do.

Cheerily:] Think we'll see anyone sent to the infirmary today, Mr. Barton?

[This is von Karma. This is von Karma standing to the side, watching the activities. He's just about everywhere, lately, isn't he?

Either way, he's not chiming in, just staring intently at the teacher between duels. Why exactly is he here?? Who knows. He's von Karma.]

[And, eventually, Clint can't help but feel bugged by the fact that von Karma is staring at him.

So, this is Barton coming over.]

Professor von Karma. Nice to see you. Can I help?

[Perfect and utter politeness to the head of the Slytherins.]

Yes. [Of course you can. Why else would he be here?]

Dueling is the sport of gentlemen. I am, of course, a gentleman. I believe it would benefit everyone if we were to demonstrate what a dueler of my experience and... yours... could do to each other.

[Professor David Webb is also present in the Great Hall. He's curious as to how the teachers and students here can fight with their magic, and this seems to be the best place to find out.

So he's going to be sat off to one side, watching, arms folded. Let's see, shall we?]

[Gavroche, being too young to participate, has started up a betting pool in a corner. It's the proper thing to do.]

[Don't mind him. He's just strolling through to make sure no one's breaking any of the furniture or damaging the architecture in here. Why does this club insist on existing every term. As though they want to encourage students to duel.]

[He's also casting an eye on what the repeat-offender-in-the-making is up to.]

[And his Head of House and the Muggle Studies professor are already going at it! This is shaping up to be a promising evening already.

He favors Gagnon with an appraising stare as he draws near.]

Don't suppose you'd fancy a bet?

[From what he's heard, this kid seems kind of all right. Like, a fun person to be around. Et cetera.]

So. Lollipop Guild. What're the odds right now?

[Gambling is one of the few vices Archer doesn't possess. But what the hell. He's still, technically, on assignment, so he still, technically, has access to his expense account.]

[Gavroche raises a disdainful eyebrow at the 'Lollipop Guild' comment and crosses his arms in a properly insouciant manner.]

Between you and me, I think von Karma's got a slight leg up in terms of age. [Pause.] That is to say, experience. But Professor Hawkeye's always got an ace up his sleeve.

[Archer is casually leaning against the wall, drinking a scotch. I mean, why wouldn't he be? This is entertainment. And free entertainment, to boot.

He also may or may not be scoping out the area for some fine lady professors. But it looks like the staff list is, so far, a sausagefest.]

[ there's a girl here, clutching her wand to her chest. she hasn't decided if she wants to actually join in yet, but is (somewhat) content to watch, occasionally mouthing a spell or two to commit it to memory. she bites her lip anxiously and keeps quiet. ]

[Rapunzel's watching too. She figures she had better brush up on her offensive magic, just in case. Years and years of being told that the world is a scary place out to get you tend to instill a healthy paranoia in you.]

[ Anna stands close by to her fellow Ravenclaw; okay, she hasn't been as sheltered as Rapunzel, but she comes kind of close. And she isn't the type to twirl her wand but can be found swishing it slightly when she sees a move she likes. ]

I haven't decided, to be honest.
