[A notice will be posted on all Common Room noticeboards, as well as the main castle board in the Entrance Hall. It reads as such:]

WIZARD DUEL CLUB

For those who wish to learn the art of wizard duelling, the Duel club will be every Monday, Tuesday, Friday at 19:00 and every Sunday at 11:00 with Mr. Barton in the Great Hall.

Only Second-year students and above can participate, but anyone can watch and participate.

WANTED

Any staff/higher level students for demonstration purposes/tutoring.

((OOC: The first lesson thread will be going up in here. :3 Feel free to pick an opponent and duke it out! Or just hang around and watch.))

[ there's a girl here, clutching her wand to her chest. she hasn't decided if she wants to actually join in yet, but is (somewhat) content to watch, occasionally mouthing a spell or two to commit it to memory. she bites her lip anxiously and keeps quiet. ]

[Rapunzel's watching too. She figures she had better brush up on her offensive magic, just in case. Years and years of being told that the world is a scary place out to get you tend to instill a healthy paranoia in you.]

[ Anna stands close by to her fellow Ravenclaw; okay, she hasn't been as sheltered as Rapunzel, but she comes kind of close. And she isn't the type to twirl her wand but can be found swishing it slightly when she sees a move she likes. ]

What do you think?

[Rapunzel has been watching the duel closely.]

It's really impressive, [she says,] and I think Professor von Karma might have the edge.

[She glances furtively around, hoping that von Karma won't somehow be able to hear her whispering to Anna over the din:] I hope he loses, though.

[ She giggles quietly into her hand and promptly wrinkles her nose. ]

Me too. Though I don't think the sentiment is uncommon around here.

[Have a grubby small child tugging at her sleeve. Look, so tiny and adorable.]

You gonna give it a go, miss?

[ Anna gives him a shy smile and shrugs a shoulder. ]

I haven't decided, to be honest.

Won't know how good you are until you try! [He tilts his head, giving her an encouraging grin] And I bet you're a dab hand at spells.

[Never mind he has no idea who she is, aside from the fact that she's a Ravenclaw. These are minor details to Gavroche.]

[ She shakes her head. ]

My house isn't the best gauge of my own spellwork. [ Anna is determined to prove that she isn't a stereotype of a Ravenclaw. It's a struggle. ] I feel like I need to mentally prepare myself for a duel, honestly.

Seems to me all that training flies right out of your head once the duel actually starts. [Wow, so helpful, Gavroche.] Better to just take a running jump at it!

I don't think that's how it works...

[ anna gives gavroche a wary side glance and folds her arms over her wand. ] I would much rather approach any task well-equipped, if possible. Spells and all. You're too young to do this, aren't you?

[His expression turns very nearly serious for a moment.] Can't learn instinct, though. Or practice it.

[And we're back to grinning.] No, but the professors seem to think I am. Very inconvenient, that.

[ she smiles amusedly, tapping her wand against her side. ]

Very. If only you could simply go in my place. [ a beat once she's turned her attentions back to the duel. ] Who are you rooting for?

[Immediately:] Professor Hawkeye, of course. [Gavroche would be rooting for the gamekeeper even if Barton weren't his Head of House, but then he suspects everyone is already.]

What about you, miss?

I'm Anna. [ she introduces herself with a hand to her heart. ]

And, well, I'm rooting for him too. And, ah, not because I like him better.

And I'm Gavroche! Pleased to meet you, Anna. [Have a small bow--more of a cheerful full-body bob, really.

He tilts his head curiously. That's an odd way of phrasing it.] Then is it cos you like von Karma less?

That is most likely the case. He makes it difficult. Ah, liking him.

[ she looks bashful to even say such a thing, but that is the truth. ] And it is a pleasure to meet you too, Gavroche.

[Gavroche huffs indignantly.] That's putting it nicely! Wonder what Madeldore was thinking when he hired the man.

[And it's inbetween duels that Barton is actively looking for more volunteers...

...And he spots Anna.]

[ Well, of course he means her. She shakes her head. ] I wouldn't know where to start! Well, I suppose that's why I'm here...

Come on up.

[He motions for her to join him on the stage.]

We'll take it slow, but the best way to learn is by doing it, huh?
